A sharp-eyed friend forwarded me an ad for a three-bedroom "executive farmhouse" for rent on North Chatham Road. According to the ad, one of the advantages of the house is that it's only a "short drive to the Whip Tavern."
What my friend found ironic about this is that Gus Brown is the listing agent. Yes, the same Gus Brown who has been complaining vociferously and repeatedly to West Marlborough Township about how that very same Whip Tavern is diminishing the quality of life for him and his Springdell neighbors.
I checked out Mr. Brown's other listings and found that he also has for rent a house only "a stone throw from the popular Whip Tavern." He describes the rancher as "a perfect place to call home." I guess that would be despite the noise, parking, littering and bad behavior he has accused the Whip of generating.
Update: A reader just told me she thinks I'm being unfair to Gus; she is sure he mentioned the Whip in his listings just to provide a geographic landmark.
hooray for you Tilda Tally-ho for pointing this out.
ReplyDeleteWhen it benefits him....apparently he feels its okay to use us! Amazing cohones.
Luke A Allen
Co-owner of The Whip Tavern
I think it is time for Mr Brown to "shut up or put up" or move out of the neighbourhood.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me laugh is that Mr Gus Brown made a little name for himself in the area as a rider of horses. The people that employed him and a lot of his horsey friends are the people that use the Whip. Does he forget this now that he has moved on from the horse world somewhat. Who the hell does he think he is and who is he trying to impress. Now that he knows maybe a little about the property world he should go find himself a place to live.
ReplyDeleteI saw this about three weeks ago. Gus Brown is the rental agent for this home that is a "stones throw from the popular Whip Tavern Retauranat". Check it out. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5-Runnymede-Rd-Coatesville-PA-19320/54746750_zpid/
ReplyDeleteUnfair!? He could have simply said "a short drive from Unionville" or "a short drive to Historic Kennett Square" or "a stone's throw to Longwood Gardens". (How about "five minutes from downtown Coatesville"?) All are significantly larger geographic landmarks than The Whip. Mr. Brown is trying to promote the listing based on the advantages of its location. All he's trying to do is line his pockets on the reputation of The Whip while stabbing the restaurant's owners in the back...again and again. Advice to the property owner, pick another Realtor. One with integrity.
ReplyDeleteCoatesville...please! How about The Laurels or close to the Farm House , better food anyway !! Just sayin :)
DeleteHe would know its a stones throw away. He throws stones at the place all the time.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this I doubt I will every read your colum on Thursdays ! ALL parties are behaving like spoilt children and you are just stirring the pot.Disgusting you all need to move on !!
ReplyDeleteNo Gus is stirring the pot !
DeleteI invite you to consider this: Perhaps Gus Brown, in his description of the rental, acknowledges that many enjoy the Whip. Ever think of that? Frankly, it sounds like you and those who have commented in the negative have a personal vendetta against the guy. Do any of you actually know him? From all accounts that I've heard from those I know, he is a decent, hard working individual. I know holly and dick gross for many years, and their trust in him with their real estate group is a stronger testimonial than any of the petty comments that I've read in your blog. Grow up. Your ASSUMPTIONS as to motives, thoughts etc in the minds of others are just that. Sick sick sick of your harping on it.... And you kind of sound like a bored busy body... I read your blog once in a great while, but I doubt if I'll bother anymore actually.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is that after he has spent years now protesting the whip why on earth would he advertise his listings encouraging others to live a stones throw away from the place he hates. He is wrong to use the whips name to help market his listings, it shouldn't be difficult to see that.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. He should not have mentioned the whip in the listing, because he apparently doesn't like the whip. Some of you are stewing because Tilda noticed it. If you don't like Tilda's blog then DO NOT read it. Plenty of others will continue to read it. Thank you Tilda for bringing this rental to our attention !
ReplyDeleteTilda did not bring it to your attention, "a friend" did. Do not understand why Mr. Brown mentioned The Whip, but one would assume owner of house thought it was a possitive...pity the person who rents and becomes part of the "DRAMA" !!
DeleteHYPOCRITICAL people will do/say anything for money.
ReplyDeleteFor heavens sake. Whoever used the word "assume," (above comment) had it right. It was my understanding that the whip was in violation of several local ordinances and that the zoning officials in WMT have agreed with that. That some have decided that mr. Brown hates the whip shows their own immaturity. The same comment cited above mentions that mr. Brown might recognize the whips popularity. Why is this wrong? It isn't. You all need to move on. And whoever brought the listing to tildas attention, it matters not. She published the rather biased comment. but fact is you ALL are a bunch of whiners. As for hypocritical? When you point a finger at someone, there are three more pointing back at yourself. It's no wonder people talk about unionvillers as they do. Your comments above show just how ridiculous you all are. I too am done with this blog.
ReplyDeleteJeeze. There sure are a lot of sensitive people here. Tilda was just pointing out the irony here.
ReplyDeleteDear Sharp Eyed Friend,
ReplyDeleteYou are the only one with common sense. How about the Urban Outfitter Guy being in violation of many ordinances and Gus Brown doesn't scream about that? He should not mettle in other peoples business. He must have alot of free time on his hands.
P.S. Gus needs to learn how to spell " restaurant " in his listings. Intelligent guy...
