By the book

Gus Brown, you may recall, is one of the Springdell residents who has complained repeatedly about The Whip tavern, accusing its owners of violating the West Marlborough Township zoning regulations and damaging the town's quality of life.
In an interesting bit of irony, it turns out that Gus and his wife, Linda, have been running a personal training business out of their North Chatham Road home. The township zoning officer has determined that this violates the township's zoning rules and they will need a special exception to continue doing so. The Browns will present their case to the township's Zoning Hearing Board on Thursday, March 1, at 7 p.m. at the township building.
(Sorry for not letting you know sooner, but I just saw the notice. If you don't get there, rest assured I'll have a full report in next week's paper.)

  1. Since you copy and paste this blog into the local paper and call it journalism, I thought you should have your facts straight:
1 - The home occupation I run from my house is not in my basement, but in a single room on the first floor.
2 - The complaint was brought about by an anonymous complaint (hmmm....)
3 - I am not appealing any decision by the Twp. I filed for the special exception hearing and paid the appropriate fees.
4 - The current zoning officer verified in the course of his investigation that I had met with the former zoning officer PRIOR to starting the business and that the previous zoning officer had erred in his interpretation of the ordinance and what was required of my business.
Thanks for keeping everyone up to date and look forward to seeing you on Thursday night.

  2. Hi Linda, I based my item on what the notice on the township bulletin board said, but I altered the parts of the item that you disagreed with. Thanks for your comments.

  3. There was nothing anonymous about our complaint. It has Springdell Properties and my name and signature right on it (as your husband posted previously). Former Zoning Officer knew all along? Yada Yada Yada. Sounds too familiar to me. Keep up the damage control! Shame it had to come to this. Live by the sword... Just sayin.

  4. Why do you seem to have it in for this guy? Did he scorn you in some way? Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one. So you disagree with his opinions and the resultant actions he and others have taken. It's not unusual for people to disagree with one another. And you totally hone in on Gus Brown. You don't take swipes at George Strawbridge or the Hustons. frankly, i'm STILL tired of hearing about this stuff... Next time you're considering writing about it, do us all a favor and don't. You really come off as petty and ridiculous. Get a boyfriend or something...

  5. I agree with anonymous....I looked at your past blogs to see what sort of content and merit you have writing about these things. It confirmed my first thought that you, Tilda Tally Ho are a bag of wind and a glorified gossip. Get a real job!

  6. Something about a glass house and throwing stones comes to mind here. I wonder how long West Marlborough Township is going to entertain these personal disputes between neighbors, and what the end cost to the tax payers is going to be in the end.

  7. Thanks for reading!
Honest, I'm not picking on Gus: he just keeps doing things that contradict his very publicly stated positions. To wit: "The Whip is ruining Springdell" -- yet he uses it as a selling point in his real estate ads. "Everyone should obey the township zoning regs" -- yet his wife has been running a business out of their home. I consider that worthy of comment, especially when, as the Sharp-Eyed friend points out, it's costing us taxpayers money.
And as to the personal remarks: I actually have a very good "real job," and I consider "glorified gossip" to be a compliment!

  8. The brickbats Tilda takes are amazing when considered in light of the sweet little country town she writes about! It's the first column I read in the Kennett Paper each week, and I don't even live in either of the Marlboroughs. (OK, Sometimes I read Duane Campbell first.) Bravo to her for this service to the community and entertainment for those who love good writing.
